EthioGuzo Tour and Travel

EthioGuzo Ecolodges is an organization currently under development whose aim is to construct and manage a series of ecolodges across Ethiopia with assistance from the local communities. The lodges will use local design and knowledge and be created from local material that is sustainably available.

Mission Statement: Our mission is to create a wholesome tourism environment that promotes cultural, environmental and historical conservation.

Why Community based Ecolodges?

Most visitors come to Ethiopia to see and learn about the unique cultures, nature and history found here. As a sustainable tour operator, EthioGuzo aims to promote and conserve these unique attributes of the country. Establishing community-based ecolodges around the country will help do that by providing a wholesome natural setting that encourages this. An ecolodge set in the natural environment and built using local architecture, resources and knowledge will provide visitors the opportunity to experience the lifestyle of the local community in a comfortable manner. This arrangement will also provide the local community members opportunities for employment in tourism-driven services at the ecolodge and through privately-owned small businesses. It will provide training in tourism related services as well as an education on the importance of preserving the history, culture and environment of the area. EthioGuzo Ecolodges will work with the community to find ways to improve their livelihoods through improved sustainable agricultural techniques,  protection of the communities' water sources through reforestation of the surrounding water catchments and by creating attractive landscapes for interesting nature and cultural hikes through the community lands.

Who We Are

We at EthioGuzo Ecolodges would like to introduce ourselves and tell you a little about how each one of us contribute our part in bringing sustainability to tourism in Ethiopia.

My name is Steven Olson. I was born in Cameroon and have lived a good part of my life in Cameroon and Nigeria. I love life and traveling and I especially love the nature and cultures that are so diverse across the globe.I enjoy taking people to see these wonders but at the same time I feel it is very important to do my part to conserve and enhance these areas that outsiders seek out for themselves. For this reason, I look for innovative local entrepreneurs from the places tourists visit with whom I can collaborate in creating more sustainable settings for tourism to take place. It is a slow and gradual process which I hope will one day bloom to have a significant positive  impact on tourism in Ethiopia.
